Great Holiday Campgrounds is pleased to announce New Winter Operating Hours at Matanuska Lakes State Recreation Area. The gates at the main trail head and campground, mile 36.3 of the Glenn Hwy., are open from 8:am to 8:pm for day use activities, as of November 1, 2018. Regular Day Use fees of $7.00 per vehicle will apply to all vehicles using the facility, unless the vehicle has an annual pass displayed on the front window.
The road and parking areas have been plowed and the restrooms are open! We received about 8 inches of snow last week and with the low temperatures the trails are in great condition for hiking, fat tire biking, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. The lake ice is forming, but the lakes remain open as of today.
All fees collected at Matanuska Lakes are used to cover the costs of operations including; snowplowing, garbage service, cleaning and other maintenance costs. The facility will not be open for winter camping or overnight parking. Questions about Matanuska Lakes winter operations should be directed to Great Holiday Campgrounds, 907-240-9797. We hope to see you at the park!
